SSC-Stat

What is SSC-Stat?
SSC-Stat is an Add-In for Microsoft Excel. Many people start with their data in Excel, so it is logical to build on that and add some features often needed for statistical analysis.
SSC-Stat is designed to strengthen those areas where the spreadsheet package needs more structure, mainly data management, graphics and descriptive statistics.

What can SSC-Stat do?
We are keen to encourage people to look at their data in a way that recognises the structure in it, for example by generating charts for datasets in which there are columns indicating different groups. Hence, Menu features within SSC-Stat can:
  • help users manipulate data, such as  stacking and unstacking columns and generating factors;
  • support the provision of good graphs, producing charts that can be edited within Excel;
  • create Boxplots.
Compatibility
SSC-Stat is only available for Windows and has been tested with all versions from Windows XP up to and including Windows 10. Version 3 of SSC-Stat has been updated to run with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Excel but will not work with versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007; version 2.18 will only work with 32-bit versions of Excel but will work with Excel 2003 and earlier versions. SSC-stat has not yet been tested with Excel 2021.
Mac OS X users who wish to use SSC-Stat can install a valid copy of Windows using Apple's BootCamp or using a virtualisation software such as Virtual Box.

Installation
Both versions of SSC-Stat are provided as a zip file. The zip file contains:
  • the Add-In itself (.xla or .xlam)
  • the compiled HTML Help file (.chm)
  • a tutorial file (.pdf)
  • a data file for use in the tutorial (.xls or .xlsx)
  • installation instructions (.pdf)
Unzip the files storing the files in a suitable location; the first three files must be stored in the same folder. Then follow the instructions for loading the Add-In into Excel.
